United Blood Services of the Concho Valley announced today that supply on hand of O Negative blood type is extremely low. According to Linda Grace, Senior Donor Recruitment Representative with United Blood Services,

“Everyone should be alarmed by this – O Negative is the universal blood type that anyone can be safely transfused with – critically important to trauma patients when there is no time to perform the blood typing test”

Donors are needed to stabilize the Concho Valley blood supply. In addition, platelet donors are needed. Platelets can be donated at the donation center and are used by surgery and trauma patients. Platelets have a five day shelf life.  All blood types are welcome.
