After toiling in a number of bands for years, multi-instrumentalist J. Tillman decided to front his own project under the name Father John Misty. Emerging as one of indie rock's bigger acts in recent years, the musician has also drawn raves for his entertaining and unpredictable live shows. During a recent set in Chicago, Father John Misty shared his "favorite love song," before breaking in to the familiar chords of the Nine Inch Nails classic "Closer."

"It's a little sappy, but I would like to play my favorite love song for you," the vocalist deadpanned for the Riviera Theater audience in Chicago Thursday night (April 14). Even utilizing bright green spotlights to offer a silhouetted visual effect, Father John Misty set the mood in a decidedly Nine Inch Nails manner.

Breaking out some fat-sounding synths and more angst in his voice than usual, Father John Misty unleashed the iconic "I wanna f--k you like an animal" line with venom and could be seen visibly thrashing around the stage.

Over the years, Father John Misty has covered artists ranging from Nirvana to Arcade Fire to Leonard Cohen to Taylor Swift and most recently Rihanna. Meanwhile, acts like Asking Alexandria, In This Moment and more have either covered or sampled "Closer" over the years.
