Mega Man's spiritual successor, Mighty No. 9, wraps up its beta testing by giving players access to the Power Plant level, a stage full of electricity, blinking lights, precarious pits and bad guys ready to shoot Beck's face off. With every new piece of Mighty No. 9 footage we get, it seems progressively clearer that this is a game eager to follow in the footsteps of Mega Man while simultaneously forging its own path. Thanks to Destructoid, we get to see Beck in action.

While there are a number of similarities between Mighty No. 9 and his blue predecessor, this gameplay video also highlights some of the major differences between Beck and Mega Man. Sure, Beck has a Mega Buster-like arm cannon, but he's also got a dash ability that's useful for getting around, grabbing power-ups, finishing off enemies and maximizing your score (which Mega Man X had).

The Power Plant stage certainly seems like a solid level, but it feels like there's nothing particularly inspiring to be found there. There are enemies, there are hazards, but there aren't really any special mechanics to make the level shine. Noobies need a few low-key areas to play through so they can learn what the heck they're doing before the really tough stuff comes along -- we just hope the other levels get tougher.

Mighty No. 9 is slated for an April 2015 release for PC, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation Vita, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We have included videos of the beta's other two levels thanks to YouTuber Prepare to Game.
