On Saturday night (Aug. 20), thrash icons Megadeth were faced with troubling security issues. Opting to abort the show early due to safety concerns for the fans, band and crew members, Dave Mustaine took to Twitter to document the problems at their concert in Paraguay.

The band managed to get through seven songs, including classic hits "Hangar 18" and "In My Darkest Hour" along with new cuts in "The Threat Is Real" and "Poisonous Shadows." Unfortunately, fans were not treated to much more beyond that.

When all three security barricades — all held together by string — broke, the crowd stampeded forward, crushing three security guards, nearly leaving one female fan dead as two of Megadeth's crew were hit by glass beer bottles that were being sold at the show. At that point, it came time to call it a night.

Mustaine's tweets describing the events can all be seen directly below:

With a small round of dates left in South America before returning to North America, Megadeth will kick off the first of two consecutive nights Buenos Aires, Argentina tonight (Aug. 22). Returning stateside, the band will embark on another headlining run on Sept. 20, with support from Amon Amarth, Suicidal Tendencies and Metal Church. A full list of dates can be found at our 2016 Guide to Rock + Metal Tours.

Havok were originally slated to join the tour, but a contract dispute between the thrashers and management has led to their removal. The band claimed the contract presented to them by Mustaine Management (the band was then managed by Dave's son Justis) was unacceptable. It then came to light through both Justis and Dave that Havok refused to sign a contract that allowed Justis to take 15% of the income, what the Mustaines said was the industry standard.
