Burlington, N.C. man Donald Lee Hamlett is not supposed to contact his ex. Since May, he’s been ordered to follow a judge’s restraining order and not make direct or indirect contact with the woman. This is where Hamlett thought he could turn to Eddie Vedder for help.

According to The Times News, Hamlett wrote a letter to the Pearl Jam frontman asking him to reach out to his ex on her Facebook page or through e-mail and ask her to return. But as luck would have it, Vedder would never get that letter because Hamlett forgot to put postage on his lengthy note.

Instead the mail headed back to Hamlett, but according to the outlet, it actually ended up being delivered to his ex’s house. The woman contacted police and gave them the letter, in which Hamlett reportedly admits to Vedder that he his risking going to jail by asking Vedder to contact the woman. And that’s where you can now find Hamlett. He’s in Burlington police custody and is being held without bond, as is the case in North Carolina for domestic issues, and he’ll remain there until he sees a District Court judge this Friday.

Neither the band nor Vedder has commented on Hamlett or his letter, but the group did just post some sage advice by way of lyrics for their song “Present Tense,” that he could use. They tweeted, “Makes much more sense, to live in present tense,” sharing a photo of bassist Jeff Ament.

Pearl Jam are headlining the Global Citizen Festival in New York City’s Central Park on Sept. 26. They also have a South American tour slated for November. Head here to learn more.
