Is It Acceptable For A Woman To Pay For A Date?
So this topic blew up the phone lines, our emails, and messages on Facebook and Twitter more than almost any other topic we've discussed. It all came up because yesterday when I went to lunch with my girlfriend, she paid. Buzz thought this was outrageous. Now, let me give you some background.
My girlfriend and I are in a relatively new relationship. But lunch yesterday was by no means our second, third, even tenth date. And so far, I've paid for everything. I have no problems with that. It's why I always grab the check quickly when the bill comes. But when we were talking about going out to lunch this week, I said yes but it should be somewhere relatively cheaper, because I've been spending too much recently. Her response to this was that she would pay for lunch.
I have no problem with this. Now don't get me wrong, I'm going to hold the door for my girlfriend, etc. Do gentlemanly things, because that's what I feel is appropriate. But a woman paying for a meal because she wants to, is not an issue.
We took a lot of calls from women who thought that a woman paying for a meal was preposterous. And that's okay. They're entitled to their opinion and what they want out of a significant other. Buzz told me that when a woman asks to pay, it's a test and I failed. Well, if that is a test, that's not the kind of person I want to be with. But to each their own. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to what they're looking for in a significant other.
Although I did make the point that women who feel the man should always pay, have probably dated losers who didn't have money to pay. And guess what happened when I asked the women that thought that. Ding ding ding. Losers in their past.
Here's the bottom line. Me, I'm not looking for someone that takes that much stock in something as simple and silly as a meal. Apparently Buzz does. Buzz also hasn't had a girlfriend since I've lived in Texas, which is coming up on a year and a half.
