Lutheran congregations will work together to conduct a bake sale this Saturday, May 2nd, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Lowe’s Home Improvement Store on Sherwood Way. This is the multiple congregations annual sale to benefit Habitat for Humanity of San Angelo.  They'll have lots of baked goods to satisfy everyone's sweet tooth.

This year they are adding something new. They will have lumber and invite contributors to write a message, blessing, or scripture on them.  These ‘Blessed Boards’ will then be incorporated into the next house that Habitat builds with a partner family.

These churches have done these sales successfully for many years.  At last year’s bake sale five Lutheran congregations raised $1,406.  Since 2007 they have raised thousands of dollars to help build more homes in San Angelo.

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry dedicated to providing decent affordable housing. The San Angelo affiliate has completed 73 NEW homes since 1996 turning 73 low income hard working families into homeowners and taxpayers.  Habitat offers its partner families a hand up, not a hand-out.  Partner families work to make their down payment in the form of sweat equity.  They help in the Habitat office and warehouse and work on the homes of other partner families.  After their home is completed they make interest-free mortgage payments to HFHSA which go to fund building more houses with more partner families.  Construction of the 74th house is now underway at 510 East Harris for the Patterson family.
