Get Ready For The ‘Hog-Pocalypse’
Even before I moved to Texas, I had friends asking me about going on a hog hunt. I still want to go. So if you know anyone who can be a guide, or take me and a group of buddies on a hog hunt, let me know (email@example.com). And now is the time for the hunt, because it is time for the 'Hog-Pocalypse'.
There are about 2.5 million feral hogs in the state of Texas, and the state now has a plan for them. Total annihilation. The state's agriculture commissioner, Sid Miller, just approved a pesticide called "Kaput Feral Hog Lure".
"This solution is long overdue," Miller said in a statement. "Wild hogs have caused extensive damage to Texas lands and loss of income for many, many years."
It's estimated that feral hogs cause $52 million in damages every year to agricultural businesses. The hogs tear up tear up crops and pastures, and do damage to fences and equipment.
The lure is only strong enough to kill the hogs and not other wildlife populations or livestock. But it does take care of them in a pretty nasty way. It's a similar pesticide used on rats in homes. The animal doesn't die instantly. Rather, it's a blood thinner that thins the animals blood to the point it dies from internal bleeding.
All I can say, is that I want to do my part in helping with the feral hog population, and go hunting. So again, if you know anyone, hit me up.
