We received this message from our friends at 1st Community Federal Credit Union and wanted everyone to know about this scam:

Here are updates (5/23) from the San Angelo Police Department:
Wednesday afternoon scammers were sending fraudulent texts posing as US Direct Express, the text directed recipients to Call 15055161239.

Today (Thursday 5/23) Donna Hammons, VP Branch Operations from Concho Educators Federal Credit Union called to advise San Angelo Police  that some of her clients have started receiving the same scam messages as 1st Community FCU.

5-22-13 WARNING! Please be aware that both 1st Community Federal Credit Union members and non-members are receiving fraudulent texts this morning telling them to call a phone number indicating it belongs to 1st Community or another financial institution. When they called the number... they were immediately asked to give their debit card number. DON’T! Financial institutions have all your information on file. They will not be calling or texting you to request that information. If you responded to these texts and gave out your account or debit card number, please contact the Credit Union immediately 325/653-1465 or 800/749-1465.

Other information:
When a member calls or comes in to tell us they did give out their information, we cancel their debit card immediately and issue them a new one.

We have contacted a company that specializes in shutting down these live phishing scams and they are working on it.

This station reminds you to please call your financial institution or can file a police report online at: http://sanangelopolice.org/page.php?kei=54  if you have been contacted by someone requesting your account information.
