It’s time for this season’s last episode of Epic Rock Tales! In this animated video, Cannibal Corpse drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz recalls Cannibal Corpse’s half-completed tour of Russia in 2014, where it all came to a screeching halt after authorities raided a Nizhny Novgorod gig.

Cannibal Corpse were set to make history by touring across Russia for a string of eight shows. About halfway through the tour, a Corpse show was actually stopped mid-performance by authorities. Mazurkiewicz was the last of his bandmates to notice that militants had infiltrated the show, and it actually took George ‘Corpsegrinder’ Fisher’s panicked signaling to stop Mazurkiewicz from blasting through “Dormant Bodies Bursting.”

Since the men were dressed in black and carrying heavy weaponry, Mazurkiewicz had no idea who this group was. It seemed like some sort of coup d’etat had taken place, with the authority’s leader looking a little too much like Vladimir Putin for Cannibal Corpse’s comfort.

The invaders’ excuse to stop CC’s performance was to search for drugs. Corpse waited in their dressing room for a while before the authority came in, barely taking a moment to check for anything illegal. Once they finally cleared out, it was curfew time, so the Russian authorities had robbed fans of a full Corpse performance.
