On August 9, 2013, at approximately 6:30 p.m., San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a 911 call regarding a possible robbery at the West-T-Go Convenience store located at 712 N Chadbourne St. in San Angelo.   After further investigation, the incident was downgraded to a Burglary.  No one was injured during the incident.
While en route to the location, police received information that the suspect left the store and got into the passenger seat of a white Chevrolet Camaro that was last seen fleeing the area eastbound on 8th St.  An SAPD Officer who was nearby observed a similar vehicle traveling south on N. Main St. to an apartment complex located in the 300 block of N. Main St. The officer then observed the male driver exit the vehicle and walk away.  The officer then approached the vehicle and observed a male passenger who matched the suspect’s description, stuffing an item underneath the seat.

The officer made contact with the passenger who proceeded to exit the car and run northbound through the parking lot.  After a brief foot chase, the officer caught the suspect as he was trying to jump over a nearby fence.  The suspect then proceeded to resist his apprehension and once he was placed inside the patrol car, proceeded to kick a back window partially out its frame.

Subsequent to the investigation, police learned the suspect, identified as Justin Slatton of San Angelo, had been inside the store minutes prior to the burglary to purchase an item.  Surveillance video captured footage of Slatton as he reentered the store, jumped over the counter and stole a bank deposit bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash.

Slatton was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Burglary of a Building, Resisting Arrest, and Evading Arrest/Detention.

Police recovered the stolen bank deposit bag and its contents during a search of the Camaro.

The driver of the vehicle has not been identified.  The vehicle was towed from the scene. Additional charges may be filed at a later date.
