Bruce Dickinson Introduces New Iron Maiden ‘Hallowed’ Beer

Following the success of past brews like Trooper 666, Iron Maiden have returned with yet another beer, this one a Belgian-styled titled Hallowed, which frontman Bruce Dickinson introduces in the video above.

“It’s got that lovely, peppery sort of like nose to it,” the singer says in describing Hallowed. “It’s got a lovely peppery – but soft – it’s much softer.”

A real ale enthusiast, Dickinson wanted to develop a beer with a true depth of character. Crystal Rye gives Hallowed a blood red hue and a smooth dry finish. The Belgian-style yeast used in this brew along with Noble hops combine to deliver a complex palate of subtle banana and a sweet plum finish.

“What makes this brew pretty special is that we’re adopting a Belgian yeast for the first time,” Dickinson says. “I’m a big fan of Belgian beers, so I jumped at the chance to brew my own. While I get very excited about experimenting with new formulas and ingredients, the thing about Belgian beer is that it’s as much a way of life as it is a drink. We’ve tried to bottle that philosophy in Hallowed, albeit with a British twist.”

Though it is Belgian inspired, the beer is brewed in England by Robinsons Brewery. Hallowed is available for order now, and can be purchased here. But act fast, it’s only available for a limited run of four months.

“It’s all in the yeast,” Martyn Weeks, Head Brewer at Robinsons Brewery explains. “Belgian yeast yields a very distinct taste and presentation. You can sniff out a Belgian beer simply from its aromas: fruity, spicy and earthy. Belgian yeasts withstand higher alcohol levels, they attenuate well and create an array of phenolics and esters… put simply, this means more flavor and I think Hallowed drinkers are in for a treat.”

Hallowed comes after the release Trooper Ale, Red ‘N’ Black Porter and the aforementioned Trooper 666. Iron Maiden mascot Eddie is once again featured on the label, this time clad in a traditional monk’s robe in tribute to the Trappist monastic brewing tradition of Belgium. The beer packs six percent ABV, a quality attributed to the yeast used in the brewing process.
