San Angelo Bandits and Operation Finally Home Team Up to Help Campbell Family

The San Angelo Bandits and Operation Finally Home has teamed up to help the Campbell family build a home here in San Angelo. During the game this Saturday, May 2nd, you will be able to donate, buy OFH t-shirts, and other items that go towards helping build the Campbell family home. You will also be able to donate during half time that evening as well. Watch some football and help a vet and his family, not bad and all in a day's work. Staff Sgt. George Christopher Campbell joined the U.S. Air Force in September 1994 as a Crew Chief for the 79th Fighter Squadron at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. In June 2000 Campbell joined the West Virginia Army National Guard as a Supply Sgt. in Oak Hill, W. Va. He then served as a member of the 145th Logistics Readiness Squadron (LRS) for the North Carolina Air National Guard in Charlotte, N.C. in 2002.

Campbell was involved in several tours of security duty around West Virginia immediately following the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001 as well as a deployment to Balad Air Base, Iraq as a member of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing (AEW)/LRS from November 2005 to July 2005. In 2006, Campbell deployed to Gulfort, Miss. in support of Hurricane Katrina.

During Campbell’s deployment to Iraq in 2005, he was injured by a rocket attack at Balad AB on June 11. As a result of the blast, he received a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Campbell also suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), frequent migraines, insomnia, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease/asthma and hearing loss. He medically retired from the military in 2012.

As a result of his service and commitment to the military, Campbell was honored with numerous awards including a Purple Heart, USAF Meritorious Unit Award Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and an Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Ribbon. He currently lives in Danese, W. Va. with his wife, Stephanie, and their two sons, Logan, 7, and Wyatt, 4 and are interested in moving back to San Angelo, Texas, where they previously spent several years living. Campbell finds comfort in the companionship of service dogs. He recently purchased two German Shepherd puppies that will serve as both service and therapy dogs to aid in his healing. He plans on promoting his service dogs as an effective way to aid in the recovery process for wounded veterans.

Thanks to A.B. Builders and the Home Builders Association of San Angelo, Chris and his family will have a home to call their own in 2015.
