Award winning astronomer and former consultant to NASA, Kevin Manning, is coming to San Angelo to present, “Astronomy for Everyone: Size and Scale of the Universe” and he’s bringing the Library’s brand new telescope with him.
Everyone is invited to the Sugg Community Room of Stephens Central Library this Friday, June 6, at 6:00 pm for Manning’s educational and entertaining presentation.

Participants will learn about the scale of the universe, stars and other celestial wonders using hands-on activities and assorted visuals followed by a short walk to the Edd B. Keyes parking lot to make observations of the night sky.

This program is for the entire family and will conclude about 9:30 pm. There is no cost to participate.

Tatyana Shinn, Reference Services Coordinator for Tom Green County Library, says that the program promises to be fun and engaging for children and adults alike, and offers the participants a unique opportunity to view celestial objects in the night sky, such as the rings of Saturn, craters on the Moon and more, weather permitting. She anticipates that the telescope will be a welcome addition to future programs at the library when the roof area is completed and can be used for observations. With the telescope, the library will offer the community a chance for a closer look at the must-see celestial events such as solar and lunar eclipses, comets and meteor showers.  The library will be able to host additional programs presented by local professional and amateur astronomers as well as guest speakers. The telescope will be available for public use at the library.
