A new Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag video gives us an inside look on a few of the weapons that pirates used in their heyday.

The video lets us take a little trip to Genoa, a port town with a checked past involving pirates. The perfect setting for a Black Flag video, right? We're introduced to Mike Loades, a historical weapons expert who gives us information on the weapons pirates used back in the day and some of the tactics they might have employed on the high seas.

On top of the pistols, cutlasses, knives and grenades, pirates would also use psychological warfare to get into their targets' minds and strike fear into their hearts, getting rid of the need to fight. In fact, pirate flags were meant to intimidate other ships.

When it came time to board ships after blasting them to high hell with guns and cannons, pirates may or may not have used ropes to swing over and capture the target ships. Like Loades said, there's no evidence to show they did this; but there's also no evidence to show they didn't do this.

Watch the video above and prepare to set sail when Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U on Oct. 29. The PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions will be released in November.
