Aerosmith to Headline 2014 Download Festival
Next year's Download Festival has added its final headlining act. And the announcement should leave rock lovers feeling some sweet emotion.
Classic Rock Magazine reports that Aerosmith will close out the 2014 edition of Download, following an opening-night set from Avenged Sevenfold and an appearance by Linkin Park on the second night. It will mark the band's first live date in the U.K. since 2010 -- which also took place at Download.
Of course, as CRM notes, that last date took place during a particularly bumpy time in Aerosmith's oft-turbulent history. Some erratic behavior on the part of singer Steven Tyler had placed an unflattering spotlight on the group, and there was dissension in the ranks regarding Tyler's seeming desire to focus on attention-getting efforts like his seat at the 'American Idol' judges' table at the expense of good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. But all that's behind them now, and with a Tyler solo record on the horizon for next year, it looks like everyone is buckling back down on the music.
Guitarist Joe Perry, for one, is enthused about the band's return to the festival. As he put it in a statement, "It’s been too long since we’ve been to England, and we’re sincerely f---ing charged to be coming back!"
