25 Songs Super Smash Bros Needs for My Music
The Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 50-Fact Extravaganza brought us a ton of Super Smash Bros. information, but none of the announcements caught my eye quite like the My Music section. This was one of my favorite features in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and to see that it is coming back in a big way is very exciting for a game soundtrack junkie like myself. My excitement soon turned to curiosity, and I'm wondering just what tunes we'll be able to hear come Nov. 21. If it were up to me, these 25 songs from all over the gaming world would be perfect additions to Super Smash Bros.
Nemesis King Koopa
Super Mario GalaxyI'm not sure how much more epic of a soundtrack you'll need for a Smash battle than 'Nemesis King Koopa'. The Mario Galaxy stage needs this track on loop at all times.
Royal Raceway (Nintendo 64)
Mario Kart 8Technically this song was in Brawl under 'Luigi Circuit', but I prefer the newer Mario Kart 8 version of the song. It just sounds better with the trumpet section blasting away. Like Chuck Mangione, it feels so good.
Rainbow Road
F-Zero XI don't know why this song wasn't included in the 3DS version of Smash Bros., considering there's a Rainbow Road stage, but this oft-forgotten F-Zero version of the iconic track might be the best one out there.
Beware the Forest's Mushrooms
Super Mario RPGIf for no other reason than Nintendo acknowledging that Super Mario RPG does indeed exist, I'd love to hear this tune play in Mushroom Kingdom U. Any song from Mario RPG would work really, but this one has always been a favorite.
Mario Paint Medley
Mario PaintWith Art Academy now serving as Nintendo's art-focused franchise, I don't think we'll ever seen Mario Paint again (even though Mario Paint U practically develops itself). At least let me relive the awesome soundtrack with a medley from the playlist above. I'd even want the weird chant intro.
Opening Fanfare/King Kool Returns
Donkey Kong Country 2I always thought that Donkey Kong Country 2 had the coolest intro sequence of the SNES DKC games, mostly because of the title screen song. Let's immortalize that in Super Smash Bros., shall we?
Endless Challenge (Guitar Arrange)
F-Zero XAnother heavy metal version of a song included in previous versions (again including the 3DS version), 'Endless Challenge' is another way to listen to the awesome music of Mute City, but I've yet to hear a more rocking version than this. I can beat up Captain Falcon to this, can't you?
Eclipse of the Moon (Guitar)
Hyrule WarriorsI feared that Hyrule Warriors was too new to be included in Smash Bros. Wii U until I saw what looked like a Yoshi's Woolly World stage in one screenshot (referenced in this video). If the door is open to a game that's not due until next year, then the excellent Hyrule Warriors soundtrack should be included too.
Final Battle
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between WorldsA Link Between Worlds was awesome, the final battle was especially awesome, and the music that came with that final battle was the musical icing on the cake. The Skyloft stage needs a heapin' helpin' of this track.
Star Wolf Theme
Star Fox AssaultYes, this exact song was in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. No, there hasn't been a better version of the Star Wolf theme song since Brawl on account of there not being any Star Fox games since Brawl. Stick with the best.
Lavender Town
Pokemon Red and BlueCome on, wouldn't this be an awesomely creepy backdrop to a Smash battle? I'd be fine with a remixed version, the original 8-bit version need not be included, I just want to hear Lavender Town in some capacity. Maybe a retro Pokemon medley or something like that would work.
Rainbow Cloud
Pokemon SnapYet another old game curiously ignored despite being a perfect fit for current Nintendo consoles. Placing this song in the new Smash Bros. might make younger players wonder what Pokemon Snap is, instantly increasing demand for a new one once those kids look it up. At least I hope it would.
9-Volt and 18-Volt
WarioWare Smooth Moves9-Volt and 18-Volt's music is basically a melody of chiptune-type sounds, but isn't that awesome in itself? With the new WarioWare Gamer stage in Smash Wii U, it seems like a perfect time for 9-Volt and 18-Volt's music to show up.
Great Tiger
Punch-Out WiiPunch-Out Wii took the classic Punch-Out fight music and remixed it multiple times based on whoever Little Mac was facing at the time. Great Tiger's remix stands out as one that would fit rather well into Smash Bros., though other choices from the game would work, too (Von Kaiser and Soda Popinski, I'm looking at you).
The Elemental Stars
Golden SunThere's a ton of great Golden Sun music that can be used, but without a stage of its own songs will just have to be shoehorned into other stages. This song perfectly fits with the new Great Cave Offensive stage, doesn't it?
K.K. Love Song
Animal CrossingK.K. Slider is a canine musical prodigy and we've heard his music in Smash Bros .before, but this has always been a personal favorite K.K. tune. I'd play Smash Bros. every Saturday night just to hear this if it was included.
Duck Hunt Medley
Duck HuntIt's no secret that the jerk Duck Hunt Dog is playable in the new Smash Bros. Even though we haven't seen it yet, I have a sneaky suspicion he'll get his own stage in the Wii U version. That would have to come with an obvious medley of Duck Hunt music, right?
Karate Man (Struck by the Rain)
Rhythm HeavenHere's a music game for the 3DS with music conspicuously missing from the 3DS version of Smash. I expect that mistake to be remedied on the console, and this song is a perfect candidate.
Tomorrow is Mine
Bayonetta 2You may not have played Bayonetta 2 yet, but once you do you'll see just how perfect this song is in the background of insane action. I expect some kind of Bayonetta reference in Smash Bros., why can't it be in the soundtrack?
Go Straight
Streets of Rage 2If Sakurai and company can borrow characters from other companies, there's no reason why they can't donate musical tracks to the game too. Windy Hill Zone could have plenty of great Sonic music, but it would also benefit from some Yuzo Koshiro Streets of Rage greatness. He's one of the composers listed on Smash's website, after all.
Carnival Night Zone
Sonic the Hedgehog 3Speaking of excellent Sonic music, here's a song I feel gets overshadowed by the rest of the great musical selections. Maybe I prefer it because I loved the Carvinal Night stage, or maybe it's because of this sick mash-up with Eminem on YouTube. Either way it's a great tune.
Storm Eagle
Mega Man XThere's a lot of fantastic Mega Man music to choose from, and what the 3DS version presented so far is a great start. However I hope the soundtrack expands further than just classic Mega Man into the other franchises just like Mega Man's Final Smash does. "Storm Eagle" would make a terrific addition to the lineup.
Elec Man
Mega ManIf he's good enough to be an Assist Trophy, I suppose his theme song is good enough to be a part of the game's soundtrack. Of course, if they wanted to create a remix, they could always just use 'Faithfully' by Journey...
Guile's Theme
Super Street Fighter IIAgain with the borrowing from other franchises from a third-party partner, but come on now... this one is perfect. It goes with everything, does it not?
Mushroom Battle Medley
Tekken Tag Tournament 2The Wii U version of Tekken Tag 2 had exclusive Mushroom Battles with Nintendo items and Mario music remixed in the Tekken style. I don't see why all three of those tracks couldn't make their way to Super Smash Bros. on Wii U.
